TOM STARKER

For many years Tom Starker ran the circuit as the Front Man of the most influential clubs in New York City, about which he is still being written about in national magazines such as Blackbook. He worked under Ian Schrager and Steve Rubel during their ownership the Palladium. He went on to run some of New York's most successful clubs including Tatou, The Limelight, Club USA, The World, and Area. Responsible for both overseeing management staff when owners were not on premises, overseeing security, crowd management as well as VIP and celebrity clientele of these clubs, he was frequently responsible for media control, creating and marketing club events. These events ranged from major and indie movie premieres to live performances by international musical acts like Duran Duran, Talk heads, Neil Young and Love and Rockets and many more.

In 1986, during his tenure at the Palladium, Tom opened his own venue, the popular New York speakeasy “Saturdays.” The club was a monumental success and by 1989 was closed by the city of New York due to its unwieldy size and popularity. The success of the club was unprecedented and was mentioned by Andy Warhol in his infamous diary.

Saturday, August 16, 1986. Went to dinner with Wilfredo and Len and Beauregard at Barocco ($165) and then we walked up from Church Street to a new place called Saturday’s that’s called something else during the week. We got there and it was all beautiful straight models, dressed to the hilt, accessorized with jewelry and T-shirts torn just the right way, like Weber photographs, and they all look like they just fell out of a magazine. And the right age, like twenty-eight to thirty. They parked their motorcycles out front. And beautiful girls, too. This place overflowed onto the sidewalk; it was so chic. I could’ve stayed there longer but we left at 2:30 (drinks $40.)

Mr. Starker worked with the pioneering Rooftop Film Series in event development and promotion. He worked with Andy on one of his “Circle Line Parties” and initiated and promoted the popular “Harley Knights” parties, which were attended by a wide spectrum of patrons including Malcolm Forbes. He has appeared in many music videos for popular artists such as Robert Palmer, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, and others.

Tom has founded and run several fashion brands in NYC with known designers. He also created a music management company managing new musical artists and doing independent promotion for clubs and corporations. Requests for his skills as a promotions specialist put him in demand for such companies as Easy Riders handling their promotional and charitable events and launching their flagship store.

Tom was the founder of BoMA, The Bar of Modern Art, LLC., a premiere entertainment property rehabbed from a 20th century stone church into a 30,000 sq ft reclaimed as a nightclub, restaurant and art gallery. BoMA was named best nightclub by the press shortly after opening and garnered kudos with two 4-star ratings by food critics. Listed as one of the top 10 restaurants in the metropolitan area od Columbus Ohio, BoMA crowned its achievements by being nominated for a Club World Awards for Best New Club, Best Club and Best Video System by Club Systems International/ Club World magazine. As the executive overseeing all aspects of concept, design, and administration of the nightclub and restaurant Tom was also the primary contact and visionary with regard to promotions and programming at BoMA. He went on to open Spice Gastro Lounge in 2008 which garnered three culinary stars for its upscale casual gourmet food and atmosphere.

In 2014 Tom launched TSC Consulting Group to provide consulting and development services to the entertainment industry. The clients of TSC have included large restaurant chains to small mom and pop operations, as well as a software company innovating the online poker industry. Tom also returned to his love for fashion and launched Country Style Apparel which used as its theme biker style design celebrating the American pass times of hunting, fishing, BBQ and Moonshine. Tom also has partnered with long-time collaborator Pam Theodotou in NYXFILM, a television and film development company.
